TRM Compitition Book Review - Stormbreaker - Anthony Horowitz - posted in Teenage Reading Month
Stormbreaker, written by Anthony Horowitz shows how Alex Rider evolved from a fourteen year old school-boy, to a fourteen year old spy working with MI6 in just a couple of days. Alex forcibly joined the MI6 after the mysterious death of his uncle Ian Rider who also worked with the MI6. Alex gets his first assignment which is to stop a nuclear bombing named 'Stormbreaker'. Unfortunately this looks like his last assignment. While Alex is proceeding with his assignment he meets Yassen Gregorovich Ian Riders killer. As you read through the book you will feel the tension build. He also meets Sir Herod Sayle, the head of operations at Sayle Enterprises. Before he starts his assignment he must train with the Special Forces. While he is there he is bullied and must go on training exercises which send him to exhaustion. He is sent back to MI6 and he meets Smithers who gives him all the gadgets he would need but disguised them as things a teenager would need. Alex finds out whats going on and he has to escape Sayle Enterprises and stop the Prime Minister from launching the Stormbreaker. Will he make it on time? You will only know if you read the book. Anthony uses great description to set the scene and lets the reader imagine what it would be like to be Alex Rider. He also uses lots of ambitious vocabulary and a variety of writing styles to create masterpieces like 'Stormbreaker'. The novel Stormbreaker is just one of the books from the 'Alex Rider' series. The others are,'Snakehead','Point Blanc','Eagle Strike','Skeleton Key','Scorpia' and ' Ark Angel'. He also wrote a series called 'The Power Of Five' which includes ' Ravens Gate ' and 'Evil Star'. To round off I think Stormbreaker was a five star read. Another great book by Antony Horowitz.
